Fresh Basil Leaves

Without a doubt, fruit flies are a nuisance. You can put some fresh basil plants close to your kitchen windows. The scent of basil leaves deters pests while also making your kitchen smell fresh and nice all day.

FRESH BASIL LEAVES

Application:  Place leaves directly on surface or in a small bowl or cup at the base of your window.

Defense:  Fresh Basil leaves naturally defend against fruit flies, flies and missquitoes.

Coffee grains

When you notice a couple of ants moving around in your kitchen, take out the coffee grounds and sprinkle them around the windows and entry points where the ants can get in. This will keep them at bay and prevent them from entering your kitchen.

COFFEE GRAINS

Application:  Set at the base of a window or other entry point. Preferably in a container such as a small bowl.

Defense:  Mosquitoes, wasps & bees.

Vinegar

Wiping your kitchen counters with vinegar and a strong-smelling essential oil, such as peppermint or citronella, is another effective way to keep ants at bay. Make sure to wipe all around the edges and along the walls.

Please note that aphids and fruit flies are not repelled by vinegar.

VINEGAR

Application:  With a rag or sponge spread vinegar along counter tops and other desired locations. Another option is to use a spray bottle, this will allow for a more even distribution of your mix.

Defense:  Ants, misquitos, spiders, lady bugs and most other insects with the exception of fruit flies and aphids. Vinegar can also destroy trace trails left by ants.

Bay Leaves

This natural repellent simply works by omitting an odor that pests just cannot stand. They can be left out without creating issues with other pests that may not be effected by its smell.

BAY LEAVES

Application:  Place bay leaves at the base of your window or other entry points for max effect.  Does not matter whether they are fresh or dry. Use a small bowl or cup.

Defense:  Flies, moths, roaces and mice.

Lemon Spray

Make an all-natural spray with soapy water and lemon or orange essential oils. Five drops of either in a liter of water should suffice. You can put this in a spray bottle and spray it around your kitchen to keep spiders at bay. To keep spiders out of your kitchen, squirt pure lemon juice around the cracks.

After you've finished making the spray, place the leftover lemon and orange peels in the corners of your cabinets.

LEMON SPRAY

Application:  For best results add mix to spray bottle and apply accordingly.

Defense:   Spiders, aphids, fleas, roaches, mosquitos, gnats and many others.

Eucalyptus Oil

The essential oil of eucalyptus has a sweet, pungent scent that can repel a variety of pests. You can either use the undiluted oil to wipe down kitchen counters or mix it with a little water and spray it around the place using a spray bottle. The eucalyptus oil will evaporate into the air as the water dries, keeping flies and bugs away from your kitchen.

*Please note that beetle borers are attracted to eucalyptus oil. It's unlikely that it would attract any into your home unless you live in a wooded area with lots of exposure to the inside.

EUCALYPTUS OIL

Application:  Apply to desired locations with a rag or sponge, or add to a spray bottle and apply accordingly.

Defense:  Aphids, whiteflies, mites, earwigs, misquitoes, ticks and biting bugs.
